On this day when spring is in full swing and flowers are in full bloom. Baoji, China, has once again attracted the world's attention. The highly anticipated 2025 Baoji Titanium Valley International Titanium Industry Expo grandly opened at the Baoji International Convention and Exhibition Center on April 23rd.
From the Titanium Expo that began in 2015 to the 2025 Titanium Expo, the Titanium Expo is celebrating its 10th birthday. Over the past ten years, the Titanium Expo has grown from a babbling baby into a graceful young man. Obvious changes have occurred at the Titanium Expo. Among the enterprises participating in the previous five sessions, local enterprises from Baoji Titanium Valley far exceeded those from other places. By 2025, the number of non-local enterprises participating in the 6th Titanium Expo will exceed that of local enterprises in Baoji for the first time, reaching 302.
This year's expo, themed "Titanium Valley Linking the World, Cooperation for a Shared Future", covers an exhibition area of 23,000 square meters, gathering over 280 well-known enterprises and institutions from multiple countries and regions around the world. Exhibition groups from various regions have also made a grand appearance at the exhibition venue, setting a new historical record for the number of exhibitors.
Walking through the exhibition halls of the 2025 Titanium Expo, it is hard to imagine that this city located in the northwest inland has given birth to the largest titanium industrial cluster in the country with the most complete industrial chain. Baoji's connection with titanium began in the 1960s when the country's "Third Front Construction" relocated titanium processing enterprises to this area, laying a solid industrial foundation. But what truly enabled Baoji to transform from a "Titanium City" to a "Titanium Valley" was the full industrial chain ecosystem it had built, namely "titanium ore - sponge titanium - titanium materials - titanium products". Data from 2024 shows that Baoji has gathered over 600 titanium and related enterprises led by Baoji Titanium Group. Its titanium output accounts for 60% of the national total and 22% of the global total.
From the super-large titanium alloy forgings used in the C929 wide-body passenger aircraft to medical titanium alloy bone nails and then to titanium cookware for civilian use, enterprises in Baoji have demonstrated the comprehensive application of titanium in aerospace, medical and chemical industries, daily life and other fields. Particularly notable is that the titanium industry in Baoji has shifted from being a material supplier to a solution provider. The intelligent titanium alloy released by the Northwest Institute for Nonferrous Metal Research can automatically adjust its performance parameters according to the ambient temperature, demonstrating a breakthrough in materials science.
The reason why the Titanium Expo has become a barometer of the industry lies in its precise grasp of the three major trends in the development of the titanium industry. The first is the breakthrough in green smelting technology. At the 2025 exhibition, Baoti Group showcased the "low-carbon Sponge Titanium Preparation Technology", which reduced the energy consumption of the traditional magnesium reduction method by 40%, solving the environmental protection bottleneck that has restricted the development of the industry. The second is the continuous expansion of application scenarios. A titanium alloy battery tray for new energy vehicles launched by a company in Baoji is 30% lighter than traditional aluminum products but has higher strength, which has attracted the attention of major automakers. The third is the transformation of traditional manufacturing by digitalization. The global titanium industry supply and demand index released by the Titanium Valley Big Data Center is becoming an important reference for pricing.
Standing at the 2025 Titanium Expo site, as one of the participating academicians put it, "Without a strong material foundation, even the most beautiful design can only be a fantasy on the blueprint." Only by strengthening the foundation of materials can we realize the dream of becoming a manufacturing power. From the ancient land of Zhouyuan in the Bronze Age to the industrial new city in the Titanium Valley era, Baoji has demonstrated the resilient growth of "Made in China" through a transformation of metals, and also showcased this "Titanium Valley wisdom", which might be the key code for "Made in China" to move towards high-quality growth.
